I arrived in Vienna in the evening since my monday-flight from Eindhoven to Vienna was delayed by a couple of hours. With the City Airport Train and metro (U-bahn) it took me another hour to arrive at my hotel just outside the Innere Stadt (old town) close to the Naschmarkt. Here I could have some late night dine.
Next day I got up early to start my wondering at the Naschmarkt to make a long walk (over 15km) in and around the old town. At Karlsplatz (with the beautiful Karlskirche) I crossed the Ring Road (Ringstraße) and passed the State Opera House on my way to the Stephansdom. I had a look in the Stadtspark before wandering around the streets of the old town. Through the Hofburg Palace I returned to the Ring Road where I ended at the food trucks on a filmfestival in from of the City Hall (Rathaus). The next two days I made a sight-step to Bratislava, returning to Vienna on friday. In the afternoon and evening I explored the districts of Mariahilf (6th District), Neubau (7th District) and Josefstadt (8th District). With expected summer temperatures in the weekend and a bit fed up with the crowds near the old town, I decided to enjoy the weekend on a relaxed pace. On saturdaymorning I went to Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens. The afternoon was spend at the Prater (large park including an amusement park and the Ernest Happel stadium) and on the Donau Insel (an island in the Danube river). On sunday morning I walked to the Belvedere Palace to enjoy the rest of the day in and around the Danube river (swimming at the Gansehaufel island, and relaxing at the Donau Insel).
