The last couple of days of our Southern Africa road trip were spend in Cape Town. The table mountain is a characteristic view the city. As sometimes the clouds only covers the top of the mountain, we waited for a good moment to climb the Table Mountain. It gave us a great view on the city and the coastline.
Next day we did some sight-seeing on a Peninsula's tour. From Campus Beach we went to Hout Bay and took a boat to Seals Island. We reached Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, the most southern point of the African continent. On our way back we saw the penguins in Simon's Town. In the evening we partied in the bars of Cape Town. Unfortunately I got pickpocketed. Stupid (and drunk) as I was, I ended up in the ghetto trying to buy back what was mine. They stole my last money by four scams in a row... The sad feeling disappeared when I got the news that my sister gave birth to her first child. As an uncle I returned to Amsterdam with good memories and a baby present from Africa.

The trip in Southern Africa was almost finished. Before we reached our final destination (Cape Town) we went to Orange river to enjoy some time on the river. Not for the first time this trip, the night was filled with drinking and having fun.
I slept most of the time on the plane from Amsterdam to Johannesburg so I was full of energy when I arrived. I enjoyed my first South-African beers and got to know my fellow travellers. The Southern Africa trip was started. In three weeks we will make over 7000km by truck through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to end the trip in Cape Town South Africa!
Next day we went into the Soweto South West township to get our first good impressions of this country. After the township tour we visited the church of Desmond Tutu (Regina Mundi church) and the Hector Pieterson memorial. |
