Barcelona has it all: culture, cuisine and beach! That's why Barcelona was on top of my bucket-list of places I wanted to visit. It certainly did not disappoint me!
Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudi. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction since 1882. The Park Güell, a public park system composed of gardens and architectonic elements located on Carmen Hill, is also designed by Gaudi. As is Casa Milà, which is also known as La Pedrera. I did a tour in Camp Nou stadium, the official home of FC Barcelona and largest football stadium in Europe. The field was being replaced due to the summer stop. But I could still imagine the famous players of FC Barcelona being on the pitch, while they are supported by almost 100.000 socios. Not all of my time was spend within the city. I also went to the beach a couple of times. The beaches in Barcelona are easy to reach by foot (Barceloneta, with clubs for the nightlife) or by metro (the 9 km continuous stretch north from Barceloneta).

With four friends (Jack, Norbert, Paul and Dirk) I had rented a villa on a hill in El Chorro in the Spanish province of Andalusia. The villa had a private swimming pool (with a view). We enjoyed the Spanish sun and had bbq diners at the poolside.
We explored the Andalucia region by rental car. We went to Granada, where we visited Alhambra. This big fortress once used to be the residence of the Muslim rulers and their court. In Malaga we went to the beach and had a few drinks during some local festivities. Another visit was paid to Ronda, a town spectacularly situated on two cliffs and connected by a bridge.
Paul and I visited our friend Norbert who was working in Madrid. We did some sight-seeing together, enjoyed eating tapas and visited the football stadiums from Real Madrid (Bernabeu stadium tour) and Atletico de Madrid (to see the match against Sevilla).
